Nothing to Regret by Székely Csaba – First Performance in Satu Mare
Continuing the last season of tradition, this year also included a contemporary playwright's work performed by Harag György Company, namely a Székely Csaba drama Nothing to Regret.
" There has been a conscious tendency in the past seasons, to deal with the historical past, in particular, the twentieth century, two large, traumatic dictatorships. This performance fits well into this line, and so was my choice of texts suggested by Zoltán Lendvai.
The play is so special because it is focused on the psychology of a still among living perpetrator, Csaba Székely, with great humour, counteracts the serious tragedy of the topic”- said Bessenyei Gedő István the artistic director of the company.
„I was reading the stories of the Székely Csaba, when there was a common job opportunity. The theme of facing with the past is current maybe in the whole world. The play atmosphere is reigns by the duality of Székely Csaba dramas: I once had a laugh, then become sad, and then comes something that you can't not laugh...” – said Lendvai Zoltán, director.
Those men who before 89 worked for the Romanian secret police, torturing people, ruining families, imprisoning innocent people, rarely show remorse for their actions in connection. They are usually seen themselves as patriots, acting in the favour of the country. Many of them are working for the actual Romanian secret agency, others’ lives their retirement years living somewhere away. Dominik, the protagonist of Nothing to Regret, is included in this letter category. He lives as a retired and he does not consider himself responsible for what he has done in the past. However, the play raises the question: what happens when such a man finds out that he ruined in life of the only person he loves.
