Rasputin is performed at the National Theatre Meeting in Debrecen, organised in the framework of the Theatre Olympics

The National Theatre Meeting, previously organized in Pécs, will be held again in Debrecen as part of the 10th Theatre Olympics.

The Harag György Company has also been invited to this prestigious festival. The company will participate in this year's Theatre Olympics organized by Hungary with a total of three performances: Csongor and Tünde at the Thália Theatre in Budapest and Woyzeck at the Móricz Zsigmond Theatre in Nyíregyháza. The series starts on Saturday 13 May at 18:00 local time with Szőcs Géza' fictional historical drama, which will be performed at the Csokonai Forum in Debrecen.

This is not the first time that Debrecen audiences have seen the production: two months ago, Sardar Tagirovsky, the Harag György Company's employed director, performed it twice in the new, impressive Debrecen auditorium (both times to rapturous audience success).

The Theatre Olympiad is a theatre event in the spirit of tradition and modernity, and in the spirit of the ancient Olympics, which was launched in Greece in 1995. The founders were renowned directors and playwrights from Greece, Japan, the USA, Spain, England, Russia, Germany and Brazil. One of the world theatre's biggest and most prestigious events finds a home in a different city or country from time to time. The 2023 Olympics in Hungary will be the 10th in the history of the Theatre Olympics.

Rasputin has already brought important professional successes to the Harag György Company: the production won two awards at the Kisvárda Festival of Hungarian Theatres in 2020 (Rappert-Vencz, Gábor who played the title role, received the Best Male Actor Award, and the Harag György Company received the Ministry of Human Resources Award for Outstanding Company Work). The production was also seen by the Bucharest festival audience at Bukfest, and in Budapest it was presented at MITEM, Hungary's most prestigious international theatre festival. The 25th performance was performed in Timișoara, in the MAFEST programme, and the production is making steady progress towards its 30th performance.
The story of the play is that Rasputin, who has special clairvoyant powers, listens to his visions and tries to prevent the outbreak of the First World War. George V of England, but they do not listen to Rasputin and his predictions.

„ People have always been attracted to the ability to predict, to the person of the prophet. The figure of the prophet can be found in ancient Greek drama. In the world of that time, this vocation and ability was considered to be equivalent to science. But it is also equivalent to the theatre. Which had enormous value in the eyes of the people of the time. For the theatre was a celebration and a ritual for most citizens. This holiday was an opportunity to connect with a higher power. The world of our time often strongly questions this "higher power". Because many impostors abuse people's faith. We see this every day. There is a struggle for survival. And it couldn't have been much different at the beginning of the 20th century, when everything that most of humanity had previously perceived as reality was transformed. The world of science and money had shifted the focus. And certain noble fortunes have moved with the times," writes Sardar Tagirovsky, the director of the production.
