Csongor and Tünde - three acts on the three way road

The Harag György Company of the Northern Theatre of Satu Mare holds its last premier of the season on Wednesday, June 9, starting at 7 p.m.

A real classic was staged, Mihály Vörösmarty’s Csongor and Tünde, directed by Sardar Tagirovsky. The director of the performance Rasputin, which enjoyed significant audience and professional success, has now returned to Satu Mare now as a permanent member of the company and started directing Csongor and Tünde, contrary to his original plans. Originally, the play entitled Don Juan was included in the plans, the change took place during the season, so the great Hungarian classical was included in the repertoire as a kind of homage to Hungarian drama.

Another important aspect is that the director and the piece found each other. As old desire of Tagirovsky’s is to take the three great Hungarian classics and present them from his point of view. Recently, the Hungarian audience could see the settlement of The Tragedy of Man, now he works in Csongor and Tünde, but he is equally interested in the future processing of Bánk Bán.. As a non-Hungarian director, this is especially challenging for him.

„The target audience of Csongor and Tünde is wide, covering several generations. It is a compulsory home reading and school curriculum, which can be exciting and interesting for the school audience as well, and the company wants to invite the younger generation to the theatre as well. It is a compulsory home reading and school curriculum, which can be exciting and interesting for the school audience as well, and the company wants to invite the younger generation to the theatre as well. - says István Gedő Bessenyei, companies artistic director, dramaturgist of the performance.

„Mihály Vörösmarty could never see his work realized on a stage. He never in his dreams thought that this piece would go this far in the last century and a half. Just as Csongor who wouldn’t dare to dream to find the fulfilment of love with Tünde. Csongor and Tünde came across big obstacles. As is the opus named after them, as it has gained great popularity in schools and theatres alike. It defined the idea of romanticism in the Hungarian-speaking region and became a mandatory classic in the eyes of society. In addition to its magnitude, it is also a burden, especially for the theatre makers of the time. I would like to move towards an implementation which, while respecting the work, is capable of containing novel elements, which can confirm the momentary truth and timelessness of theatre. I would like to explore a deeper dimension of the poetic texts with the creators in a way that, to make human drama and poetry felt raw, the visceral play and the imagination reminiscent of dreams, combining the charm of a timeless classical and the innovative theatre.” – says director Sardar Tagirovsky in connection with the performance ”-siad also writes in the synopsis of the performance
